FAQ

  • Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance, however, we may be able to work with you to either get you a superbill to send to your insurance company for reimbursement, or we may be able to offer sliding scale payment.

  • What is Teletherapy?

Telemental health includes the practice of counseling, goal setting, skills practice, psychoeducation, resource referrals, and progress assessment through the use of internet-based videoconferencing. Telemental health counseling will occur primarily through interactive audio, video, and telephone communications.

  • What does 'sliding scale' mean?

In certain cases, we may offer sessions at lower rates. This is offered on a needs basis and is determined through a conversation with your clinician.

  • What areas do you serve?

Dr Shay is licensed to see clients who reside in Texas and Virginia. Our Consultation services are not location bound, however and Dr. Shay is willing to offer workshops, trainings, and consultation services around the United States and abroad.

  • What is Financial Therapy?

Financial Therapy exists at the intersection of mental health and financial health. It considers how our emotions and past experiences impact our beliefs and behaviors surrounding money.

Dr. Shay can address certain money issues in therapy (overall money beliefs, financial infidelity, navigating upward mobility—making more money now than you grew up having—, and the community trauma racially marginalized people have experienced and bore witness to throughout generations) and help you process your feelings and financial experiences to develop a healthy emotional relationship to money.
